Illusions because you see, they really are terrible. Also, I like the word illusion. ILLUSION!

"The object of art is to stir the most divine and remote chords which make music in our soul. Man is hungry for beauty. There is a void. We spend our days looking for the secret of life. Well, the secret of life is in art." -Oscar Wilde
"A poet is someone who is astonished by everything." -Anon.

More quotes: "Draw a crazy picture,
Write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-gumble song,
Whistle through your comb.
Do a loony-goony dance
'Cross the kitchen floor,
Put something silly in the world
That ain't been there before."
-Shel Silverstein

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep."
-Robert Frost, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

"'Beauty is truth, truth beauty,' -- that is all
Ye know on Earth, and all ye need to know."
-John Keats, Ode On A Grecian Urn

"Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow--
You are not wrong who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream."
-Edgar Allan Poe, A Dream Within A Dream

"You see things as they are and ask, 'Why?' I dream things as they never were and ask, 'Why not?'" -George Bernard Shaw

"If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain." -Emily Dickinson

"You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you mad." -Aldous Huxley

"Some authors should be paid by the quantity NOT written." -Anon.

Illusions of Poetry

Sunday, July 13, 2003
Okay, this first one isn't very good, the rhythm is off.

Home 6-30-03
The grass is green on both sides of the fence,
And the sky is just the same brilliant blue,
Colors spread themselves in the same vibrant hue,

The pigieons still cluster, bobbing their heads,
And the bugs still bite you awake and asleep,
Fish still swim in water-dark and deep,

The people are friendly to one another,
And children seem to play all the same games,
Human nature is the same on the Nile and the Thames,*

But,

There is only once place on earth I can call my home,
And there part of me always longs to be,
Warmth fills me thinking of those things and people I know, and those who know me.

*Yes, if pronounced correctly it doesn't rhyme. So sue me, I never said it was a good poem-in fact it reminds me a lot of the crap I wrote and called poetry back before I learned how to write my letters correctly.
------
This is honestly the best one. I don't know where it came from, it was one of those I sat down and it came type things.

Out of Sight 7-1-03
Hotel lamps only give so much light,
Darkness abides in corners during the long night,

The sheets underneath you are much too white,
Show room appearances just don't feel right,

A voice in your mind whispers of your own homey sight,
Someone there wishes they could hold you tonight.
-------
Then there's some more crap.

There is a Tree 7-6-03

On a far away hill there is a tree,
And there I sat quite quietly,
Then got up and walked away,
And if trees could talk--
About me there would be little to say,
But as for me on the subject of the tree,
Well- such simple beauty more people should see.
-----
Westendorf 7-7-03

Laundry is drying on a ledge,
Next to it sits a fly,
Bicycles ride along below,
People greet eachother with smiles,
A woman walks into her hotel,
And the Alps preside over it all.
-------
Then another decent one.

Sixteen 7-8-87

I turned sixteen this morning with disheveled dirty blond hair,
And bleary gray blue eyes,

I turned sixteen this morning in a Blue's Clues t-shirt,
And a pair of Mickey Mouse boxers,

I turned sixteen this morning with a huge zit on my cheek,
And teal painted toenails,

I turned sixteen this morning 3,000 miles from home,
And no one has wished me a happy birthday,

I turned sixteen this morning.
-----
The last one is ironic considering how bored I am here.

Welcome 7-10-03

Better news was never broken,
Sweeter words were never spoken,
Than--
Welcome home.

Notice this was written before I acctually returned.... ;-)

Comments of all types appriciated, but more so if they are more than just a smiley face or the words "Smith you are cool!". Preffered-"Smith you dolt, line 32 is completely wrong, you need to do this....."
